Jayadeba Pitha at Kenduli (Kendubilwa) village in Odisha

Shri Jayadeba was a famous poet of Sanskrit language during 12th century in Odisha. He had composed an epic lyric titled Gita Gobinda which is still popular today. It depicts the devotional aspect of Krishna and Radha relationship giving a new dimension for union of Atma and Paramatma. It is believed that he was born in the village Kendubilwa or Kenduli near the river Prachi in the district of Khorda, Odisha. It is approximately 35 kilometers from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The road is good and one can enjoy village life and surroundings while visiting the place. There is a garden with lots of trees and picnic facilities which houses one museum in his name. The facility is maintained by Tourism department of Government of Odisha.

The pitha is spread over an area of 27 acres and one medicinal plant garden of 8 acres is under development adjacent to it. The Government is building one big temple to house the idol of Shri Jayadeba and one theatre for dance & music program. There is one archeological museum housing various sculptures related to Gita Gobinda theme.

An annual cultural function in honour of the poet Jayadeba is organized at Kendubilwa. On Akshay Trutiya day, which falls on the poet’s birth day, there is grand celebration with lot of visitors. This heritage place requires peripheral development like hotels, eateries, souvenir shops, etc. The facility available is good for picnic and fun. There is one Maa Chandi temple.
